Over the last few years, nearly 8 percent of USD Law graduates have accepted legal jobs with businesses or corporations. As in-house counsel for a particular organization you only serve one client; that being the entity that has hired you as in-house counsel.

These positions can offer the challenges of private law firm practice without the pressure of meeting billable hour requirements that law firms typically carry for their associates. New lawyers with a strong interest in the business side of law are often drawn to these types of positions because of the substance of the work, the work setting, and the potential for acting in the dual capacity of lawyer and businessperson.

Many corporations do prefer to hire attorneys with years of legal experience which may make it difficult to locate such a job right out of law school.  But, as the statistics show you, it is possible to be hired as counsel for a business/corporation directly out of law school.
