Government/Public Interest

The following website is dedicated to providing resources to any individual seeking public interest and/or government legal jobs.  This would be the best resource for any student looking to work in this field.

This website also posts career fairs for public interest opportunities.

Also, Louisiana State University has created a list of all governmental entities with links to each of their websites. You can connect to this resource at the following website:

INCOME BASED REPAYMENT AND PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

One of the major benefits of working in public interest is the possibility of paying back students loans based on your income and also the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.

Income-Based Repayment
(IBR) is a payment option for federal student loans.  For most borrowers, IBR loan payments will be less than 10% of their income and will forgive remaining debt, if any, after 25 years of qualifying payments.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness
(PSLF) is a program for federal student loan borrowers who work in certain kinds of jobs.  It will forgive remaining debt after 10 years of eligible employment and qualifying loan payments. This program is for people with federal student loans who work in a wide variety of "public service" jobs, including jobs in government and nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations.

More information on both Income Based Repayment and the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program can be found at the following website:
